MoEngage’s recent fundraising of $100 million, led by Goldman Sachs Alternatives & A91 Partners, illustrates the increasing necessity for intelligent AI-powered marketing platforms as organizations are looking for new ways to engage with their customers on a more personal level, as well as retain them over an extended period of time.
MoEngage has now raised a total of over $250 million in investments to date. As a new company, MoEngage was started from an idea and simplistic vision; however, through sustained dedication, exceptional executive teams, and global growth, this moment signifies the culmination of many years of success for MoEngage.
The Story Behind MoEngage and Its Founders
MoEngage was founded in 2014 by Raviteja Dodda and Yashwanth Kumar, both IIT Kharagpur graduates. The founders noticed a major gap in the marketing world. Traditional tools were built for a desktop-first era, while customers were spending more time on mobile and moving across multiple touchpoints.
Before this, Ravi and Yashwanth built a mobile shopping discovery app called DelightCircle. By working very closely together with a lot of retailers and with millions of consumers, we were able to see a basic problem—brands have lots of information about their customers, but don’t have a way to effectively process, analyse, or act upon it in real-time. From that experience, we believed that marketing would need to become intelligent, automated, and data-led.
Our belief in that area ultimately evolved into MoEngage, which was created as a Marketing Automation Platform that enables brands to engage with customers, anticipate their needs, and deliver them the most relevant communications at the most appropriate time.
How MoEngage Became a Global Customer Engagement Platform?
Over a decade, MoEngage has evolved from an early-stage startup into a global SaaS platform used by more than 1,350 brands. Its customers include Domino’s, McAfee, Ally Financial, Landmark Group, Deutsche Telekom, Airtel and SoundCloud.
Brands rely on MoEngage for behavioural insights, real-time segmentation, predictive analytics, and multi-channel communication across mobile, web, SMS, email, push notifications, and app experiences. Its strength lies in combining intelligence with execution, allowing marketers to run data-driven campaigns with greater speed and less manual work.
What does this mean for the SaaS and MarTech Ecosystem?
This latest funding is a positive indicator for the global SaaS community. The switch to AI-driven marketing and the understanding of individual behaviours that this system provides is indicative of the transition away from traditional or “broad-based” advertising and marketing to more predictive marketing strategies, using AI technology that allows for more granular data collection and analysis of customer behaviour over time.
As businesses continue to build upon the foundation of behavioural data and call for the continued use of AI as a competitive advantage, platforms such as MoEngage will serve as foundational components for a competitive landscape and will likely encourage even more brands to embrace AI-powered marketing methodologies and push for a new ecosystem of integrated martech solutions to support more effective customer engagement.
The Leadership Behind MoEngage’s Rise
The journey of MoEngage is shaped deeply by the leadership of its founders. Ravi Dodda has consistently focused on building a strong product philosophy based on data, customer behaviour, and mobile-first experience. His clarity in understanding market needs has guided the organisation’s direction.
Yashwanth Kumar was a key contributor to building a robust product architecture that can scale to meet the demands of billions of behavioural events per day. They have also created a culture of innovation, speed, and customer focus.
What Lies Ahead for MoEngage?
As MoEngage enters its next phase, the challenges and opportunities will both grow. The company will need to balance global expansion with deep product innovation. It will need to compete in markets filled with strong international players. It will also need to maintain the speed, intelligence, and precision that its customers expect.
However, with strong investor backing, a clear product vision, a maturing AI engine, and experienced founders, MoEngage is positioned to become a global leader in marketing technology.
